Features & applications Of Rubber Products:

Rubber products have the characteristics of high elasticity, high resilience, high strength and high wear resistance. Its elastic modulus is very low, only 1-10MPa, the elastic deformation is very large, up to 100% to 1000%, with excellent scalability and energy storage capacity. In addition, there are good wear resistance, sound insulation, damping and insulation. But the rubber has poor heat resistance and cold resistance (tacky at high temperature and brittle at cold), and will dissolve in the solvent.

  1. High elasticity: low elastic modulus, large elongation deformation, recoverable deformation, and can maintain elasticity in a wide temperature range (-50 ~ 150 ℃).
  2. Viscoelasticity: The rubber material is affected by temperature and time when it is deformed and restored, and it has obvious stress relaxation and creep phenomena. Under the action of vibration or alternating stress, hysteresis loss occurs.
  3. Electrical insulation: Rubber and plastic are electrically insulating materials.
  4. There are aging phenomena: like metal corrosion, wood decay, rock weathering, rubber will also cause aging phenomena due to changes in environmental conditions, which will deteriorate performance and reduce life.
  5. Must be vulcanized before use, except for thermoplastic elastomers.
  6. The compounding agent must be added.

Other characteristics such as small specific gravity, low hardness, good flexibility and good air tightness are all valuable properties of rubber.

 

Indexes Characterizing Physical & Mechanical Properties Of Rubber Material:

  1. Tensile strength: also known as tear strength and tensile strength, it refers to the load on the unit cross section when the test piece is stretched to break, the unit is megapascal (MPa), and it used to be kgf / cm2 cm2).
  2. Constant tensile stress: The former is called the constant tensile strength, which refers to the load that the sample bears per unit area when it is stretched to a certain length. The unit of measurement is the same as the tensile strength. Commonly used are 100%, 300% and 500% constant tensile stress. It reflects the level of rubber's ability to resist deformation by external forces.
  3. Tear strength: the load per unit thickness when a special test piece (with a slit or a right angle) is torn, indicating the tear resistance of the material, in kN / m.
  4. Elongation: When the test piece is broken, the ratio of the elongation to the original length is called elongation; expressed as a percentage.
  5. Permanent deformation: After the specimen is stretched to break, the non-recoverable part of the gauge length extension deformation accounts for the percentage of the original length. After the external force is released and left for a certain period of time (usually 3 minutes), it is expressed in%.
  6. Resilience: Also known as impact resilience, it refers to the ability of rubber to return to its original state after being impacted, expressed in%.
  7. Hardness: It indicates the ability of rubber to resist external force, which is usually measured by Shore hardness tester. The hardness range of rubber is generally between 20 ~ 100, the unit is Shore A.
